Interesting Historical Facts:
30,000 years ago - Archaeological evidence suggests that Aboriginal people have occupied the land for up to 30 000 years. The area covered by the Warren Shire sits at the junction of several Aboriginal nations and language groups: Ngemba; Wongaibon; Wayilwan; Waiabara.

1818 - John Oxley and his party explore the region.
1828 - Charles Sturt and his party explore the region.
1830s - The first settlers move into the area.
1846 - Thomas Mitchell and his party explore the region.
1847 - The first race meeting held about 6km east of Warren.
1858 - First Post Office in district.
1861 - Warren proclaimed a town.
1876 - First Church of England constructed.
1880 - The first Warren Show held on 3 May.
1882 - Railway line from Dubbo to Nevertire opened.
- First Catholic Church constructed, now the WOW Centre.
1885 - Nevertire proclaimed a town.
1892 - First Hospital completed at present site.
1893 - Collie proclaimed a village.
1894 - First Presbyterian Church constructed.
1895 - First Municipal Council established.
1896 - The Nevertire Cyclone destroyed most of Nevertire.
1898 - Railway from Nevertire to Warren opened. There were two trains in and out of Warren six days a week.
1899 - The Great Fire destroyed two thirds of Warren.
1900 - Water supply from bore to town.
1901 - The population of Warren was 1006 of which 13% were Chinese.
1903 - Second/Present Church of England completed.
1906 - Marthaguy Shire formed.
1914 - 1918 - 300 men and 2 women served in The First World War. 41 did not return.
1920 - 1982 - Aboriginal families lived at the Beemunnel Reserve.
1923 - Post Office in Burton Street opened.
1924 - Electricity supply to town.
1939 - 1945 - 307 men and 16 women served in The Second World War. 21 did not return.
1950 - 1953 - 3 men served in the Korean War. All returned.
- Three major floods held behind river banks.
1951 - The most destructive bushfire experienced in the district this century occurred.
1954 - Present Catholic Church built.
1955 - Record flood of 10 metres.
1957 - Warren Shire formed with the amalgamation of Marthaguy and Warren Shires.
- Present Presbyterian Church completed.
1962 - 1975 - 10 men served in the Vietnam War. All returned.
1965 -1975 - Burrendong Dam completed and irrigation started in the valley.
1969 - Warren Showground/Racecourse opened.
1988 - Tiger Bay Wetlands opened in Warren.
1997 - New Hospital/Warren Multi-purpose Health Service opened.

The Warren Historical and Family History Society Inc. is concerned with the local history of Warren and the surrounding towns of Collie and Nevertire. Office Bearers of the Warren Historical and Family History Society Inc. for 2021 are as follows: Patricia Christoff- Chairwoman, Frere Green - Treasurer and Julie Whitely- Secretary.

The Society meets the first Monday of every month, except where there is a Public Holiday, at our own building - the old Post Office and Postmasters Residence, known as the Endeavour Hall - in Dubbo Street, at 5pm. All interested people are invited to join us.

New members are always welcome.

Yearly Membership fees currently set at $25 per person or $40 for a couple.
